What happens at Employment Tribunal?

Employment Tribunals are used to formally and judicially resolve employment disputes when this could not be done either internally between employee/employer or through the mandatory pre-cursor to Employment Tribunal, ACAS Early Conciliation.

An Employment Tribunal hearing will either be heard by a judge sitting alone or by a judge and two lay members (depending on the complexity of the case).

What is the Equality Act 2010?

The Equality Act 2010 prohibits employees from being discriminated against at work.

The act contains what are known as the 9 protected characteristics:

  • Race
  • Sex
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Disability
  • Religion or belief
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage or Civil Partnership
  • Age
  • Pregnancy and Maternity

You are protected under the Equality Act 2010 from any of these types of discrimination.
